When is The Best Time to Buy a Portable Power Station – The Short Answer
If you have no deadline, the best window to buy a portable power station is Black Friday through Cyber Monday week. In 2026 that is Friday, November 27 through Monday, November 30, and brands often open their pricing a week or more before that. Across several years of published sale coverage, that stretch is when EcoFlow, Jackery, Bluetti, and Anker have all discounted at the same time, and when the deepest cuts have shown up.
That answer comes with two conditions:
- If an outage is a realistic near-term risk for you, buy now. A discount does not help you during a blackout. More on that below.
- A big “percent off” number is not proof of a good deal. The comparison price is often a list price, not what the unit actually sold for last month. A way to check this is in the tactics section.
One more date matters: the October Prime event is already over. Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days ran October 6–7, 2026. Anyone telling you to wait for it is out of date. The next big window is Black Friday week.
The 2026 Sale Calendar
| Event | 2026 Dates | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Prime Day (summer) | June 2026 | Past |
| Amazon Prime Big Deal Days (October) | October 6–7 | Past |
| Black Friday | Friday, November 27 | Upcoming |
| Cyber Monday | Monday, November 30 | Upcoming |
Black Friday and Cyber Monday dates follow from Thanksgiving falling on November 26 this year. Brand-direct “early Black Friday” pricing commonly starts earlier in November, so the window to watch is wider than the two named days. Confirm Amazon’s own event details when they are announced.
How early do brand sales start? Jackery’s 2023 campaign is a documented example: it opened a first sale tier a week before Black Friday, then ran a second tier covering Black Friday through Cyber Monday. On several models the second tier was deeper, including some marked as that model’s lowest price ever. Treat that as one brand’s pattern in one year, not a rule.
How Deep Did Past Discounts Actually Go?
Here is what one well-documented year looked like. These percentages come from the Black Friday 2025 Amazon listings for EcoFlow products compiled by Popular Science, calculated against the listed “was” price. They cover one brand in one year and say nothing about this year’s prices.
| Product Type (EcoFlow, Amazon, Black Friday 2025) | Approx. Discount vs. Listed Price |
|---|---|
| Portable solar panel (220W) | ~64% |
| Delta Pro (older generation) | ~52% |
| Delta 2 (older generation) | ~50% |
| River 2 Pro | ~44% |
| Delta Pro 3 | ~43% |
| Delta 3 Max | ~42% |
| Delta Pro Ultra bundle (with extra battery) | ~37% |
| Delta 3 Ultra | ~29% |
| River 3 | ~25% |
What the table suggests, with appropriate caution:
- Solar panels showed the deepest cuts. If you were already planning to buy panels, this window is worth waiting for. See our foldable solar panel guide for matching panels to your station.
- Older-generation units saw roughly 50% cuts. The same listings included Delta 3-series and River 3 models, which appear to be newer-generation lines, alongside the Delta 2 and Delta Pro. That kind of overlap is common as a brand’s lineup turns over. The River 3 and Delta 3 Ultra had the smallest percentage cuts in this set, though the pattern is not clean: the Delta 3 Max and Delta Pro 3 sat in the middle.
- Black Friday was not always the floor. A late-2025 roundup from the same publication described Bluetti units on Amazon at prices below their Black Friday levels. For some models, December can beat November.
One more piece of context from earlier years: discounts of this size are not new. Black Friday coverage from 2022 and 2023 shows brands advertising cuts of up to 50% or more on select models, with Jackery’s 2023 second-tier pricing reaching 35% off on its Explorer 1000 and 47% off on its Explorer 1500 Pro.
Is the Discount Real? How to Check in 60 Seconds
A power station advertised “50% off” may be 50% off a list price it rarely sold at. Check before you buy.
Use Amazon’s Price History
Many Amazon product pages show a price history chart, which Amazon says can cover up to a year. Before any sale, open the product page for each unit on your shortlist and note the lowest price in that window. A real deal sits at or near that low. A “50% off” that is only 8% below last month’s price is a marketing number.
Compare Price per Kilowatt-Hour, Not Just Price
Divide the price by the capacity in kilowatt-hours. This is a hypothetical example to show the method, not a quoted price:
| Unit (hypothetical) | Price | Capacity | Price per kWh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Station A | $600 | 1.024 kWh | ~$586 |
| Station B | $700 | 1.264 kWh | ~$554 |
Station B costs more but is better value per unit of stored energy. Price per kWh is not the whole decision. A cheaper-per-kWh unit with a weak surge rating can fail to start the appliance you bought it for. Check surge against your actual loads first.

Decide Your Number Before the Sale Starts
Sales are designed to create urgency. The defense is a decision made in advance:
- Shortlist two or three models that meet your surge and capacity needs.
- Record each one’s recent low from the price history.
- Set a maximum price you will pay, at or near that low.
- If a sale price beats it, buy. If not, wait for the next window or the one after.
Your pre-sale shortlist: for each of your two or three models, write down (1) the 12-month low, (2) your maximum price, and (3) the surge rating versus your biggest appliance. Then use the links below to open each product page and set a deal alert.
Measure before you shop: a plug-in usage monitor shows your real appliance draw, so your target power station is based on measured numbers, not guesses.
Check the Seller and the Brand’s Own Store
Make sure the listing is sold by Amazon or the brand’s official storefront, so the manufacturer warranty is not in question. Brands also run their own stores with their own sales, and third-party retailers have stacked extra coupon codes on top of sale prices in past years. Our links go to Amazon, but the best price is not always there, so compare before you buy.
Register your warranty promptly and keep your order confirmation. Brands differ: EcoFlow’s US policy ties its extended period to registering the product, so check the brand’s policy page for your model.
Look for On-Page Coupons and Promo Codes
During sales, some discounts don’t appear in the displayed price. Amazon product pages can carry a “clip coupon” checkbox that applies at checkout, and brand and retailer promo codes can stack on top of a sale price. Before you buy:
- Look near the price on the product page for a coupon checkbox.
- Check the brand’s official channels for a current promo code.
- Compare the final checkout total, not just the displayed price. Include shipping and tax in the comparison between sellers.
When to Buy Now Instead of Waiting
Waiting for a sale is a bet that nothing goes wrong first. The right answer depends on your situation.
| Your Situation | What to Do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A named storm or winter storm is already in the forecast | Buy now | Demand spikes and shipping slows before landfall; a sale does not help you without the unit |
| Someone in your home depends on powered medical equipment | Buy now | The cost of being unprepared is not comparable to a discount |
| You live somewhere with frequent outages | Buy now, or buy at the earliest early-November sale | Each outage you sit through is a cost |
| No near-term risk, flexible timeline | Wait for Black Friday week with a pre-set target price | This is where the documented deep cuts have clustered |
| Planning for spring camping or RV season | Black Friday week or a later clearance window | Nothing forces you to buy early |
Atlantic hurricane season runs through November 30, so Black Friday falls inside its last days. Winter storm season is just starting. If you live in either risk zone, weigh the timing against your own exposure.

A Third Option: Certified Refurbished, Available Any Month
If you need a unit now and a full-price new one stretches the budget, certified refurbished is worth checking. It doesn’t depend on any sale calendar.
What It Is
EcoFlow runs an official store on eBay, and eBay’s listing language for those units says “Certified Refurbished” means the item was inspected, cleaned, and refurbished by the manufacturer or a manufacturer-approved vendor. The listing reviewed for this guide included free 30-day returns and a 2-year warranty serviced by Allstate. Certified refurbished Bluetti and Anker listings also appear on eBay. We could not confirm an equivalent official Jackery refurbished program.
What to Check Before Buying
- The warranty is not the same as a new unit’s. Buyer reports on deal forums describe terms ranging from 1 year (a lower “very good” condition grade on EcoFlow’s store) to 2 years (EcoFlow certified refurbished) to 5 years (a Bluetti Apex 300 refurbished listing). Read the specific listing. For comparison, EcoFlow’s US warranty policy lists 5 years on new Delta 2, Delta 2 Max, and Delta Pro Ultra units when registered, so a refurbished unit may carry a shorter term than new.
- Seller and condition grade. Buy from the brand’s official storefront, and confirm the condition label and what’s in the box (cables, manual).
- The “was” price is a list price. A large discount against list does not show what you are saving versus the new unit’s recent selling price. Compare against the new unit’s 12-month price history, as described above.
The Amazon Version
Amazon’s own refurbished program, Amazon Renewed, backs eligible listings with a 90-day Renewed Guarantee: replacement or refund within 90 days of receipt if the item doesn’t look or work as expected. It applies only when the listing says it is covered, and 90 days is far shorter than a manufacturer’s multi-year terms. Check the listing text.

The trade-off in one line: refurbished can lower the price, but it often shortens the warranty. Buy it only if the listing’s terms are ones you’re comfortable with.
Sales Tax Holidays: A Predictable Discount Outside Q4
Some states waive sales tax on emergency-preparedness items during an annual weekend. They fall in spring and summer, so this year’s windows have passed, but they are worth planning around.
| State | 2026 Window | What the Holiday Covered | Price Cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Texas | April 25–27 | Portable generators, emergency ladders, portable self-powered light sources | Generators under $3,000 |
| Virginia | August 7–9 | Hurricane and emergency preparedness items, including portable generators | Generators $1,000 or less per item |
Both states’ published lists use the wording “portable generators.” Neither explicitly names battery power stations, so whether a given power station qualifies is a question for the state tax agency, not something this guide can promise. Price caps matter too: a unit priced above Virginia’s cap would not qualify.
Two practical points:
- Online orders count in Texas, including orders placed during the holiday that ship afterward, according to the Texas Comptroller. If tax was charged on a qualifying purchase during the holiday, the Comptroller says you can ask the seller for a refund.
- Other states have run similar holidays (Alabama’s has covered portable generators priced $1,000 or less). Dates and covered items change, so check your own state’s revenue department each year.
This is general information, not tax advice. Confirm eligibility and dates with your state’s tax agency before relying on a holiday.
How it fits Q4 buying: a tax holiday only helps if it overlaps your buying window. If you’re not rushed, mark next spring and summer’s dates alongside Black Friday and compare.
What to Buy During the Sale — and What Not To
- Solar panels: the deepest cuts in last year’s data. If you were going to buy panels anyway, this is the window.
- Expansion batteries and bundles: worth watching, since bundle pricing often moves more than the base unit’s.
- The right unit, not the cheapest one: match surge to your sump pump or AC before chasing a discount. Our best-overall picks and outage hub are built around exactly that.
- Skip unknown brands with surprising prices. A very low price on an unfamiliar brand is a reason to check chemistry, certifications, and warranty support, not a reason to hurry.
- Always insist on LiFePO4 chemistry for any unit meant to last years of regular use.

Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to buy a portable power station?
For buyers with no deadline, Black Friday through Cyber Monday week has been the most consistent window across several years of sale coverage, because the major brands discount at the same time. In 2026 that is November 27–30, with brand sales often starting earlier in November. If an outage is a near-term risk, buy now instead of waiting.
Did Prime Big Deal Days 2026 already happen?
Yes. Amazon’s October Prime Big Deal Days ran October 6–7, 2026, so it is over. Amazon’s summer Prime Day was in June this year.
Is Black Friday cheaper than Prime Day for power stations?
Both produce deep discounts, and the published coverage does not support a universal winner for every model. Black Friday week has typically brought the widest brand participation. The reliable method is to check each product’s price history and buy when it is at or near its 12-month low, whichever event that happens to be.
Are “50% off” power station deals real?
Sometimes. Past Black Friday coverage includes cuts around 50% on older-generation units, but the percentage is measured against a list price. Compare against the product’s recent price history to see whether you are saving 50% or 8%.
Should I buy last year’s model or the newest one?
Older generations have tended to see the deepest percentage cuts as newer models arrive, which can make them strong value if the specs still meet your needs. Check surge rating, capacity, and recharge speed against your loads, and confirm the older model is still supported and covered by warranty.
Can prices drop after Black Friday?
For some models, yes. A late-2025 roundup noted Bluetti units on Amazon at prices below their Black Friday levels. Not every model follows this pattern, so a missed Black Friday deal is not necessarily a lost deal.
Is a certified refurbished power station worth buying?
It can be, if the listing’s terms suit you. Certified refurbished units from official brand stores are inspected by the manufacturer or an approved vendor and often come with returns and a warranty, but the warranty is frequently shorter than a new unit’s and varies by listing and condition grade. Compare the refurbished price against the new unit’s 12-month price history, not the listed “was” price.
Are power stations exempt from sales tax during tax holidays?
It depends on the state and the wording. Texas’s April holiday and Virginia’s August holiday both covered “portable generators” under a price cap in 2026, but neither explicitly lists battery power stations. Confirm with your state’s tax agency whether a specific model qualifies.

The Lab’s Verdict
Waiting for Black Friday is a sound strategy for a patient buyer with a plan, and a bad one for anyone whose home is exposed to an outage in the next few weeks. The practical approach is the same in both cases: decide your model by your loads and surge needs first, check the 12-month price low, set a target price, and then let the calendar work for you instead of the other way around.
The next best window is November 27–30. If you are not exposed to near-term risk, set your target price now and buy when the sale hits it.

SOURCING NOTE FOR PUBLISHER
Prime Big Deal Days 2026 dates (October 6–7) confirmed across NBC News Select, HotHardware’s September 2026 report on Amazon’s announcement, and several other outlets; Prime Day moving to June in 2026 and the description of Amazon’s Price History tool (up to 365 days on product pages) per Technobezz’s October 2026 coverage. Black Friday (November 27) and Cyber Monday (November 30) are calendar-derived from Thanksgiving falling on November 26, 2026. Discount percentages for EcoFlow products are calculated from the Black Friday 2025 Amazon listings compiled by Popular Science and are measured against listed “was” prices, for one brand and one year only. The late-2025 observation about Bluetti prices on Amazon falling below Black Friday levels is drawn from a Popular Science roundup. Jackery’s 2023 two-tier Black Friday/Cyber Monday structure and percentages are from Jackery’s own Business Wire press release. Earlier-year “up to 50%” Black Friday coverage is from 2022 and 2023 Business Wire deal roundups. No current dollar prices are quoted in this article, consistent with the site’s Amazon Associates price-display rule; the price-per-kWh example is explicitly hypothetical. This article does not predict 2026 prices, and past discount depth does not guarantee future discounts.
Refurbished program details are drawn from eBay’s listing text for EcoFlow’s official store (manufacturer or manufacturer-approved refurbishment, 30-day returns, 2-year Allstate warranty on the listing reviewed), deal-forum buyer reports on warranty variation (labeled as buyer-reported), and EcoFlow’s US Limited Warranty Policy. Amazon Renewed’s 90-day guarantee is as described in published program summaries; confirm on the listing. Sales tax holiday details are from the Texas Comptroller (April 25–27, 2026; generators under $3,000; online purchases covered; refund process) and the Virginia Department of Taxation (August 7–9, 2026; generators $1,000 or less). Neither agency’s retrieved wording names battery power stations. Florida’s status was not confirmed and is intentionally omitted. This is not tax advice.
